Georgia Basketball: What role will Alabama transfer Jusaun Holt play in 2022-23?
By Matt Melton
Georgia Basketball landed a transfer from within the SEC on Thursday night when former Alabama guard Jusaun Holt announced his commitment to the Bulldogs. What role could Holt play at Georgia in 2022-23?
Alabama transfer guard Jusaun Holt could play a key role for Georgia Basketball
A former four-star prospect out of high school, Holt is a former prep standout from the state of Georgia who attended St. Francis Day School in Roswell, GA.
As you likely know however, Holt would not see much time this past season as a freshman with the Crimson Tide. Appearing in a total of 22 games, Holt would only average a total of seven minutes per game with 0.7 PPG and 1.6 RPG.
Seeing double-digit minutes in only four of those 22 games, Holt did show some impressive flashes defensively at times throughout the year, even despite not a big sample size offensively. Looking ahead to Holt’s potential impact with the Bulldogs next season however, the sophomore will likely be a piece of the Georgia rotation, but how big of a role could he play?
With Kario Oquendo and Jabri Abdur-Rahim set to return to Georgia in 2022-23, it seems unlikely that Holt will see a starting role to at-least begin the year. However, when looking for the potential role for the 6-foot-6 guard, the role that Abdur-Rahim played last season could be a possibility for what it may look like.
After transferring from Virginia last offseason, Abdur-Rahim was one of the Bulldogs top wing options of the bench a year ago where he averaged 6.9 PPG and 3.2 RPG across 18.9 minutes per game.
While the Georgia Basketball 2022-23 roster is still fully yet to be determined for Mike White’s first season in Athens, it still seems likely that Holt is at-least a key piece off the bench for the Bulldogs as an impact defender and three-point shooter. However, don’t necessarily rule out Holt potentially growing into a starting role late in the year either.
