As we begin the second half of conference play for the 2022 SEC Baseball season, one of the more-intriguing things to watch for over the next couple of weeks will be the race for the 2022 SEC Player of the Year.

With an argument that could easily be made for multiple different candidates, who should be the favorite as of right now to win the 2022 SEC Baseball Player of the Year?

Who is the favorite to win the 2022 SEC Baseball Player of the Year?

Well, if you had to make an argument for the favorite to win the 2022 SEC Player of the Year, what about Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb?

Arguably the top hitter for the nation’s top team, Lipscomb has simply been nothing short of phenomenal offensively this season. Having entered the weekend with a .365/.438/.810 slash line, Lipscomb is among the Tennessee and SEC leaders in multiple statistical categories such as OPS, SLG%, and total bases, as well as home runs where he has hit 15 this season with 57 RBI’s.

As mentioned previously however, there are certainly multiple other names that are either right there or right behind Lipscomb. A list where any of those names could easily go-on to win the award, just who is in that group however?

Well, here are a few others who may come to mind:

  • Auburn 1B Sonny DiChiara
  • Florida OF Jud Fabian
  • Georgia RHP Jonathan Cannon
  • Ole Miss 1B Tim Elko
  • Tennessee RHP Drew Beam

Looking at this group, DiChiara has arguably been the top hitter in all of SEC Baseball this season batting .434 through 34 games, while both Fabian and Elko are among the conference’s leaders in home runs. The 2022 SEC Pitcher of the Year race will also be an intriguing one to watch for with Cannon and Beam squarely in the mix, as well as a few others such as Tennessee’s Chase Burns, Vanderbilt’s Devin Futrell, and more.

Both the races for SEC Player and Pitcher of the Year are extremely close with a wide range of potential winners as we inch closer to the month of May. Will one of these names listed above potentially emerge as the clear favorite in the coming weeks?
