Georgia Basketball: Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe will be key piece of 2022-23 roster

For a Georgia Basketball team that has made a few notable additions through the transfer portal so far this offseason, there may not be an addition however bigger than who the Bulldogs added on Monday afternoon.
Oklahoma State transfer Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe will be key piece of Georgia Basketball’s 2022-23 roster
After landing transfer guards such as Longwood’s Justin Hill, Bradley’s Terry Roberts, and Alabama’s Jusaun Holt, the Bulldogs added a key piece to the frontcourt earlier this week in Oklahoma State transfer Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe.
A former four-star prospect out of high school, Moncrieffe has spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys where he has averaged a combined 6.5 PPG and 4.6 RPG on 51.2% shooting from the field.
Moncrieffe however originally emerged as a freshman back in 2020-21 where he started in half of the Cowboys games, averaging 9 PPG and 5.3 RPG in the process.
Averaging 21.9 minutes per game that season, Moncrieffe would however average only 14.8 minutes this past year as a sophomore, starting in only 7-of-30 games for the Cowboys. During the 2021-22 season, Moncrieffe would average 4.2 PPG and 3.9 RPG at Oklahoma State, shooting 51% from the field.
While not an outside shooter, as well as only a career 53.8% free throw shooter, Moncrieffe makes the biggest impact offensively when driving to the basket where he can finish at the rim and draw fouls. A player with impressive athleticism at 6-foot-7 as well, Moncrieffe has the ability to guard multiple positions defensively, both in-and-outside the paint.
Looking ahead to the 2022-23 season as well, it certainly feels likely that Moncrieffe will play a key role for the Bulldogs in year one under new head coach Mike White. Don’t be surprised if the junior forward starts for Georgia Basketball next season, with a significant role likely for the Oklahoma State transfer.
