SEC Football: Recapping the AFC North picks from the 2022 NFL Draft
By Ryan Broyles
The Baltimore Ravens draft exceedingly well every year, with multiple SEC Football players selected by the team once again. Just how well did they do in 2022? Can any of their AFC North counterparts stay close?
Which SEC Football players were selected by AFC North teams in the 2022 NFL Draft?
Baltimore Ravens
- Round 4 Pick 119: Alabama CB Jalyn Armour-Davis
- Round 6 Pick 196: Missouri RB Tyler Badie
No one manipulates the NFL Draft better than the Baltimore Ravens. It is truly breathtaking to watch. Unfortunately for the Baltimore Ravens, their long-standing history of drafting SEC players, particularly Alabama Crimson Tide players, has caught up with them. Other teams around the league are now targeting the Ravens and trading in front of them in order to draft these coveted SEC prospects. With one of their six 4th round picks, the Ravens selected Alabama CB Jalyn Armour-Davis. The Ravens were one of the worst pass defenses in the league a year ago, and Armour-Davis can play in the slot and on the outside, providing the Ravens with a versatile chess piece in their secondary. Tyler Badie will have to cut his teeth on special teams to make the team.
Cleveland Browns
- Round 3 Pick 68: Mississippi State CB Martin Emerson
- Round 4 Pick 124: LSU PK Cade York
The Cleveland Browns did not make a selection in the 2022 NFL Draft until the 3rd round due to the acquisition of QB Deshaun Watson. The Browns went right to work drafting CB Martin Emerson out of Mississippi State. Emerson is a physical CB who can match up one on one with the bigger receivers in the league. The Browns also added ace kicker Cade York out of LSU in the 4th round to cure their kicking woes.
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Round 2 Pick 52: Georgia WR George Pickens
- Round 3 Pick 84: Texas A&M DT DeMarvin Leal
- Round 7 Pick 225: Ole Miss LB Mark Robinson
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have come away with one of the steals in the draft when they selected Georgia WR George Pickens in the 2nd round. Pickens was injured early in 2021 and is now rounding back into form. Pickens is a 1st round talent who could develop into the long-term running mate for Diontae Johnson. The Steelers followed up in round three by drafting DeMarvin Leal out of Texas A&M. Leal was once thought to be a top-ten pick early in the draft process but slid significantly due to an up-and-down season in 2021. Viewed as a bit of a ‘tweener’ – Leal will make an ideal fit in the Steelers 3-4 scheme. Mark Robinson will have to develop into a special teams’ dynamo to make the squad.
Cincinnati Bengals
- Round 3 Pick 95: Florida DT Zachary Carter
Zachary Carter may wind up the best value pick for the Bengals in the 2022 NFL Draft. Many draft analysts believe Carter is a player who is just scratching the surface on his potential.
