The Carolina Panthers took a patient approach to their quarterback quandary and selected one of the best values in the draft from SEC Football.

Recapping the NFC South’s SEC Football picks from the 2022 NFL Draft

Atlanta Falcons

  • Round 6 Pick 190: Georgia IOL Justin Shaffer
  • Round 6 Pick 213: Georgia TE John FitzPatrick

After turning their attention to the SEC a year ago when they drafted supernova TE/offensive weapon Kyle Pitts out of Florida, the Falcons strayed away from the SEC for most of the 2022 NFL Draft. Justin Shaffer and John FitzPatrick were late round selections who will have to cut their teeth on special teams early on if they are going to make the roster.

New Orleans Saints

  • Round 2 Pick 49: Tennessee CB Alontae Taylor

I had a late day two/early day three grade on Alontae Taylor. The Saints clearly prioritized the former Volunteers’ CB and will give Taylor every opportunity to start.

Carolina Panthers

  • Round 3 Pick 94: Ole Miss QB Matt Corral
  • Round 6 Pick 199: Tennessee IOL Cade Mays

Many around the NFL thought the Panthers could panic and choose a QB with their 1st round pick. Instead, the Panthers took a much-needed offensive tackle and circled back to the quarterback position in the 3rd round. Matt Corral has a talented arm and with proper development, he can become a reliable NFL starting quarterback. I liked Cade Mays a great deal. I thought he could have gone as early as the 4th round. The Panthers selected the interior offensive lineman in the 6th – a nice value selection.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Round 4 Pick 133: Georgia P Jake Camarda
  • Round 7 Pick 248: LSU DE Andre Anthony

When your roster is loaded like the Buccaneers, I guess you can take your punter in the 4th round. Andre Anthony will be a longshot to make the roster given the talent and depth across the Buccaneers defensive line.
