2. The Crimson Tide will need win the SEC and make the CFP.

Those two are pretty much synonomious with each other at this point as they have appeared in the CFP 7 out of the 10 years.

And anytime Alabama isn’t in the CFP, it’s a disappointing season for them. So unless Young throws for 60 plus touchdowns, he won’t be able to secure that trophy without having the same level of team success he did last year.

In the past, Alabama has been criticized for scheduling to play thier big time non-conference opponents at a neutral site.

They faced USC in Arlington back in 2016, Florida State in Atlanta in 2017, Louisville in Orlando in 2018, and the Miami Hurricanes in Atlanta in 2021.

But this year, the Crimson Tide will travel to Austin, Texas to play the Texas Longhorns.

That is the first big test of the season and will offer Young an opportunity to separate himself (along with C.J. Stroud) with a big road win at the beginning of the season.

Stroud also faces an early non-conference test. Ohio State opens the year with Notre Dame at home, and if they win then, Stroud will be the early frontrunner.

Young will need to rack up the victories to keep pace in the race.

SEC opponents await for the rest of the year afterwards. Ole Miss and LSU on the road and Arkansas and Texas A&M at home are the most notable.

And after the recent feud between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher, the stakes for the Texas A&M game will now be at an all-time high. It will also be a chance to avenge last years 41-38 loss.

If those teams aren’t ranked at the time of play then some of the others will be ranked because the bottom of the Top 25 poll is a revolving door of SEC teams.

Last year we saw what a loss and big win can do to a Heisman resume. Aiden Hutchinson vaulted into 2nd and C.J. Stroud fell out of the top three.

Every year it seems like you need to be perfect to win the Heisman even though each candidate isn’t. But Bryce Young might actually have to be.
