Alabama Football has now landed a commitment from an elite quarterback from the state of Louisiana. No, it’s not Arch Manning, but Eli Holstein.

One of the top nation’s top quarterbacks in the Class of 2023, Holstein attends Zachary High School in Louisiana where he is rated as the No. 5 overall player in the state according to the 247Sports Composite. The nation’s No. 54 overall player, Holstein is also considered as the No. 8 quarterback nationally, and is coming off a junior season in which he completed 65% of his passes for 3,228 yards with 30 touchdowns to only six interceptions.

A dual-threat quarterback, Holstein also rushed for a total of 523 yards and 14 touchdowns, and helped lead Zachary to both an undefeated season and the Class 5A state championship. Named the MaxPreps Louisiana Player of the Year this past season, Holstein held offers from over 20 collegiate programs, and was even a former Texas A&M commit who decomitted from the Aggies back in mid-March.

Clearly a significant addition to the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class, which now ranks sixth in the SEC with four total commits, what will Holstein bring to the Crimson Tide offense when he steps on campus?

A highly-rated four-star prospect, Holstein is a player who can simply do-it-all from the quarterback position. At 6-foot-4 and 222 pounds, the Louisiana native can beat you with both his arm and his legs, and has experience playing against elite competition in the state of Louisiana.

Looking ahead as well, current Alabama Football starting quarterback Bryce Young is likely set to move on to the NFL after the 2022 season, meaning that the quarterback competition will be wide open in 2023. Yes, Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson will likely be the favorites in that competition, but do not sleep on Holstein either, because the four-star’s combination of arm talent and running ability has the potential to special.
