After landing one of the nation’s top 2022 recruiting classes, Alabama Basketball and head coach Nate Oats have now landed their first commitment of the 2023 class in four-star forward Sam Walters.
A big pickup for Alabama Basketball, what will the talented four-star bring to the Crimson Tide on the court?
Four-star forward Sam Walters commits to Alabama Basketball
A four-star prospect, Walters is rated as the No. 94 overall player in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite, as well as the No. 20 overall power forward nationally. Walters is also considered as the No. 11 player in the state of Florida where the four-star attends The Villages Charter School.
Looking back at last season, Walters is coming off an impressive 2021-22 junior season in which he averaged 24.6 PPG and 9.9 RPG, as well as 1.9 BPG on the defensive end. Ranking among the state of Florida’s leading scorers a year ago, Walters also shot an impressive 56% from the field.
The four-star also held offers from a few notable collegiate programs, a majority of which came from the SEC. Included in that group were teams such as Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss, as well as out-of-conference Georgetown.
Looking ahead as well, Walters has the potential to make an instant impact as a freshman from day one in Tuscaloosa.
Offensively, Walters is a versatile playmaker at 6-foot-8 who can stretch the floor, as well as drive to the basket and finish at the rim. Looking at the defensive end as well, the four-star has the size and athleticism to guard multiple different positions both at and away from the basket, along with being a strong rebounder and shot blocker inside.
After bringing in a top class this past cycle, Alabama Basketball have now started the 2023 cycle in a big way with the addition of Walters.
