LSU Baseball: Tigers start Regional play against Kennesaw State
LSU Baseball starts Regional play against Kennesaw State
Hattiesburg, Miss – The #2 Seed in the NCAA Baseball Hattiesburg Regional Tournament, LSU Baseball starts play Friday night against Kennesaw State. This will be the first time these two teams have met. The Tigers are coming in 38-20 while the Owls are 35-26 on the season. LSU has been here several times but can’t take Kennesaw lightly.
LSU has been here several times before, to be exact this is their 34th time overall. Let’s not forget the National Championships being at 6. Kennesaw got the automatic bid to be in the tournament by winning the A-Sun Conference.
Looking at both teams averages, Kennesaw has a higher batting average than LSU. The Owls are batting .301 to LSU’s .289. LSU senior Pitcher Ma’Khail Hillard has pitched some very good games when he is in the starting lineup, look for him to be a factor for the Tigers.
QUOTE FROM COACH JAY JOHNSON
"“The success we had in the SEC this season should give our team great confidence. We swept the defending national champion (Mississippi State) on the road, we swept the national runners-up (Vanderbilt) on the road. We won two out of three at Florida, which has been one of the premium programs in college baseball for the last 13, 14 years. If that doesn’t give our team confidence, I don’t know what will. This week will be all about being in the right frame of mind and playing good baseball. I’m just really excited for this team, to be going to the NCAA Tournament, to have a 38-win regular season while going through a lot of adversity. To do all of that and to play the road schedule that we did, I think it’s a great accomplishment, and it should give our team a lot of confidence going forward. Right now, all that matters is going forward.”"
LSU is looking to bounce back from last season losing to Tennessee in a super regional, and maybe having a chance to play against the Vols in the end.
