Today we look into the past, present, and future of SEC Football and take a look at former Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore.

SEC Football Time Machine: Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore

PAST:

Elijah Moore rose to prominence during his Ole Miss career. During his Freshman season, Moore produced modest success as he came close to 400 yards receiving. Elijah Moore began to get the attention of SEC Football fans and the NFL alike as he eclipsed 850 yards and six receiving touchdowns as a sophomore. Elijah Moore turned it on during his junior campaign as he was a dynamic playmaker in the Rebels’ offense to the tune of just under 1,200 yards receiving in ONLY eight games.

NFL draft analysts began to take Elijah Moore seriously and named him a legit 1st round talent for the 2021 NFL Draft. Although a bit undersized at 5’9 180 lbs. – the NFL saw a dynamic slot option. Elijah Moore would eventually slide in the draft to the second pick in the 2nd round to the New York Jets as they paired him with the 2nd overall pick Zach Wilson.

PRESENT:

Elijah Moore got off to a slow start to begin his rookie season in The Big Apple. Many around NFL circles were disappointed as Moore caught less than 100 yards through the first seven games – not the type of production you had anticipated.

Elijah Moore turned it around abruptly in the 2nd half of the season. Moore took off like wildfire in his next six games as he caught five TD receptions and went over 400 yards during that span.

Unfortunately, just as we became used to Moore’s dynamic play, Moore injured his quad and was placed on the injured reserve. Moore paid off with his talent in the short term and teased us with a glimpse into the future.

FUTURE:

The future appears bright in New York for Elijah Moore. The Jets continue to add playmakers to their blossoming offense as they selected Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall during the 2022 NFL Draft. Although Elijah Moore never profiled as a team’s #1 receiver, Moore’s contribution to the Jets’ offense cannot be understated. Moore has cut out a consistent role for himself moving forward. I am anticipating 100 targets for Elijah Moore in 2022. With that type of workload, Elijah Moore should be fully unleashed in a new look New York Jets offense.
