Arkansas Football: Looking back at the Razorbacks career of Hunter Henry

A highly-touted tight end prospect out of high school, Hunter Henry came to Arkansas back in 2013 and instantly made an impact with the Razorbacks as a freshman. A player who went on to have a memorable collegiate career in Fayetteville, here is a look back at the Arkansas Football career of Henry.

Looking back at the Arkansas Football career of Hunter Henry

A four-star prospect out of in-state Pulaski Academy, Henry originally came to Arkansas as the second-highest rated commit in the Razorbacks 2013 class, only behind four-star running back Alex Collins.

One of the highest-rated tight end recruits in Razorbacks program history, Henry as mentioned previously would go-on to make an immediate impact at Arkansas as a freshman. Catching a total of 28 passes in 2013, Henry would turn that sample size into 409 receiving yards and four touchdowns, earning multiple honors that included SEC All-Freshman.

Coming off that freshman season, Henry would once again post a strong campaign in 2014 as a sophomore, catching a total of 37 passes for 513 yards and two touchdowns. One of the SEC’s top tight ends, Henry would earn All-SEC honors due to his sophomore season, and would enter 2015 as not only one of the top players at the position in the conference, but across the country as well.

Looking at that 2015 junior season in Fayetteville, this is arguably the year that most college football fans remember Henry by.

In 2015, Henry would catch a career-high 51 passes for the Razorbacks, resulting in another career-high 739 yards (10th in SEC) and three touchdowns. A First Team All-SEC selection, Henry was also selected as a consensus All-American as a junior, and would win the 2015 John Mackey Award, an annual award presented to the top tight end in college football.

At the conclusion of that 2015 junior season, Henry would enter the 2016 NFL Draft where he would be selected with the No. 35 overall pick in the second round by the-then San Diego Chargers. Ending his collegiate career, Henry would conclude his time in Fayetteville by catching a combined 116 passes for his career, resulting in a total of 1,661 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Entering his seventh NFL season with the New England Patriots in 2022, Henry has so far appeared in a total of 72 games during his professional career. Selected to the 2016 NFL All-Rookie Team during that span, Henry has caught a career 246 passes for 2,925 yards and 30 touchdowns between the Chargers and Patriots.
