Out of all the SEC Basketball players set to be selected in the 2022 NBA Draft, you will be hard to find a player with more eye-opening athleticism than Alabama point guard JD Davison.

However, after a season in which the freshman struggled at times, where is Davison likely to be selected in the 2022 NBA Draft?

SEC Basketball 2022 NBA Draft Preview: Alabama PG JD Davison

A five-star prospect out of high school, Davison came to Alabama this past season as one of the highest-rated recruits in Crimson Tide program history.

Davison would flash some of his highlight-reel dunks and plays from day one, and would go-on to post a solid season in Tuscaloosa averaging 8.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 4.3 APG off the Crimson Tide’s bench. Earning SEC All-Freshman honors at seasons end, Davison also shot a strong 46.3% from the field, but struggled in a few areas as well, most-notably with turnovers at times.

Having likely fallen out of first round consideration, Davison is now set to be selected at some point within the second round. Based on his athletic tools alone, there is a chance that Davison could be a draft steal as well depending on his development.

Strengths

Davison’s biggest strength is undoubtedly his athleticism which is evident on the offensive end by his highlight-reel dunks. Aside from that however, Davison also uses his quickness at the point guard position to get past defenders and into the paint, as well as the ability to finish at the rim.

On defense, Davison’s quickness translates to the other end of the floor where he is a solid defender as well. At 6-foot-3, Davison is also a strong rebounder for the position, one who averaged nearly five boards per game as a freshman.

How He Projects in NBA

The former five-star has all the tools needed to be an impact point guard in today’s NBA, but will need to continue developing his three-point shot (30.1% in 2021-22) and cut down on the turnovers. Davison will likely be a reserve option next season as a rookie, with the potential to grow into a starting role in the future.

Potential Draft Fits

While unlikely a first round pick, Davison is a name to watch for as soon as the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft begins. As for when in the second round Davison is selected, any point in the first half of the second round is a possibility.
