Alabama Football 2022 Season Preview: Quarterbacks
By Matt Melton
A position group that has become loaded in recent years, few teams across college football can compare to the level of talent and depth at the quarterback position that Alabama Football has.
With the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner set to return at the helm of the Crimson Tide offense as well, everyone around college football knows who the starting quarterback will be for Alabama in 2022. However, what does the remainder of the quarterback depth chart look like for the Crimson Tide entering the 2022 season?
Alabama Football 2022 Season Preview: Quarterbacks
Bryce Young
As the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner returns for his junior season in Tuscaloosa, there is no doubt as to whom the starting quarterback will be for the Crimson Tide entering the 2022 season.
After sitting behind Mac Jones as a freshman during Alabama’s 2020 national championship winning season, Young showed a year ago just why the former five-star was considered as one of the nation’s top players in the 2020 class. Having thrown for an SEC-leading 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns, as well as only seven interceptions, last season to become Alabama’s first-ever Heisman winning quarterback, what will the encore campaign include now for Young?
Well to keep things simple, Young has everything that he needs to become only the second player to ever win the Heisman Trophy twice. Yes, that is certainly a lofty billing for the junior entering the year, but Young does enter 2022 as the SEC’s, if not the nation’s, top quarterback, and could easily throw for 4,500+ yards and 45+ touchdowns once again, while also potentially running the ball more this season.
Overall, expect Young to once again have a phenomenal season in 2022 for the Crimson Tide, and for the junior to be one of college football’s top overall players, regardless of position.
