Alabama Football: Four-star QB Dylan Lonergan commits to Crimson Tide
By Matt Melton
Already holding a commitment from four-star Eli Holstein, Alabama Football has now added a second quarterback to their 2023 class as Dylan Lonergan has committed to the Crimson Tide. A four-star prospect, Lonergan announced his commitment to Alabama over additional schools such as South Carolina and Stanford, while also holding offers from numerous others.
Four-star QB Dylan Lonergan commits to Alabama Football
The nation’s top uncommitted quarterback in the 2023 class, Lonergan is currently entering his senior season at Brookwood High School in Georgia. One of the top players in the state regardless of position, Lonergan is also coming off an impressive junior campaign in 2021, one in which he threw for a total of 3,392 yards with a 32:3 TD:INT, as well as having rushed for 645 yards and seven more scores.
A quarterback with an exciting skillset at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Lonergan is considered as the No. 93 prospect nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, as well as one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the 2023 class.
With the addition of Lonergan, Alabama Football’s 2023 class now holds a total of 11 commitments, with the four-star being the first to come from the state of Georgia. As mentioned at the start as well, Lonergan is also the Crimson Tide’s second quarterback commit in the 2023 class, marking the first time since the 2019 cycle that Alabama has landed two quarterbacks in the same recruiting class (Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson).
Looking ahead, Lonergan adds to what will be a loaded depth chart for the Crimson Tide at the quarterback position entering the 2023 season, one that will also feature Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, and Holstein. Assuming starter Bryce Young departs for the NFL at the conclusion of the 2022 season as well, could Lonergan potentially be a name to watch for in the Crimson Tide’s quarterback competition next offseason?
