3. 2007 QB Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is the second Florida Gator quarterback on this list and comes in at number 3 (I went back and forth between Wuerffel and Tebow here but this feels right).

Tebow surprised many in his sophomore year by putting together a stellar Heisman Trophy campaign in 2007.

As a true freshman in 2006, Tebow was an integral part of the Gators winning the National Championship.

He received significant playing time and was the backup to Chris Leak. He was the Gators second leading rusher and scored 13 total touchdowns.

In 2007 he took over the reigns as the starting quarterback and would became the face of the Gators for the next three years.

In his Heisman year, he threw for 3,286 yards and recorded 32 passing touchdowns to only 6 interceptions. He also rushed for 895 yards and added a staggering 23 touchdowns on the ground, which was an SEC Football record at the time.

In a game against South Carolina he had 5 rushing touchdowns while also passing for 300 plus yards and rushing for 100 plus yards.

Tebow and the Gators faced a tough schedule in 2007 and finished the season 9-4.

They played No. 1 ranked LSU who won the National Championship, No. 2 Georgia, No. 15 Auburn, and No. 18 Michigan.

Ironically, Tebow won the Heisman in the year sandwiched in between two National Championships. If he would’ve won the National Championship or the Gators had more team success, then he could’ve been higher on this list.

But his 2007 season broke the long standing streak for the Heisman trophy winners only being awarded to Juniors and Seniors. He became the first sophomore ever to win the award and that counts for something.
