3 takeaways from 2022 SEC Football preseason media poll, All-SEC teams

1. Alabama is the heavy preseason favorite

Having won the last two SEC Football championships, as well as seven of the last ten, Alabama is once again the preseason pick to win the SEC, receiving 158 total votes. For reference, defending national champion Georgia finished second with 18 votes, with the Bulldogs also picked as the heavy favorite to win the SEC East.

The Crimson Tide were also the overwhelming pick to win the SEC West this season, receiving 177 first place votes (Texas A&M also received three, Arkansas received one). Alabama also landed a total of nine players on the preseason First Team All-SEC teams, with four apiece on both offense and defense, as well as one on special teams (Jahmyr Gibbs was First Team on both offense and special teams).

2. Alabama, Georgia land most players on preseason First Team All-SEC

Alabama’s nine players selected preseason First Team All-SEC was the most among any team within the conference. Among SEC Football teams other than the Crimson Tide, Georgia finished second with six players selected, while Arkansas, Auburn, and LSU each also had two apiece.

3. Vanderbilt receives a vote to win SEC championship

dark. Next. 3 renewed rivalries when Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC

One of the more notable takeaways not related to Alabama or Georgia was Vanderbilt receiving one vote to win the SEC in 2022, even despite being picked to finish seventh in the SEC East. The Commodores were not the only team outside of Alabama and Georgia to receive a vote to win the SEC however, as Texas A&M also received one vote to win the conference, while South Carolina received three votes.
