One of the nation’s top prospects regardless of class, GG Jackson has committed to South Carolina Basketball, becoming the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to the Gamecocks.

Five-star PF GG Jackson commits to South Carolina Basketball

Obviously, the initial reaction from the Gamecocks perspective is that this is a massive recruiting win for South Carolina Basketball and new head coach Lamont Paris. Why you ask?

Well, not only did the Gamecocks land one of the nation’s top overall prospects, but South Carolina has also landed the state’s top player for only the first time since 2015 when local product PJ Dozier committed to the Gamecocks. Speaking of local products as well, that is exactly what Jackson is as he is also from Columbia where he attends Ridge View High School.

A five-star prospect who recently decommitted from North Carolina, Jackson had been committed to the Tar Heels since late April, but originally had South Carolina in his list of finalists before committing. In fact, from that list that also included teams such as Auburn and Duke, some saw the Gamecocks as the potential favorite of the group to land Jackson at one point.

Now set to join the Gamecocks however, Jackson is obviously a massive piece for South Carolina’s 2022 class, as the five-star will also reclassify and enroll in Columbia this upcoming season.

Looking at next season as well, Jackson will be a focal point for the Gamecocks from day one, as well as one of the top players in the SEC. While a solid defender as well, Jackson however will likely make the biggest impact for South Carolina on the offensive end where he is a mismatch problem for defenses, with the ability to score both at-and-away from the basket.

Overall, this is undoubtedly a massive recruiting win for South Carolina Basketball, one that will make a significant impact from day one with the Gamecocks.
