Defensive Line

Starter: Justin Eboigbe, DJ Dale, Byron Young

Backup: Jah-Marien Latham/Monkell Goodwine, Jamil Burroughs, Tim Smith

An experienced defensive front, Eboigbe and Young will be the primary options for the Crimson Tide at defensive end, while Dale will start at nose tackle. Burroughs and Smith in particular are also names to know, while redshirt freshman Damon Payne Jr and freshman Jaheim Oatis could also potentially play key roles at times.

Outside Linebacker

Starter: Will Anderson Jr, Dallas Turner

Backup: Chris Braswell, Quandarrius Robinson/Demouy Kennedy

Having combined for 26 sacks a year ago, Anderson and Turner enter the 2022 season as arguably the top pass rushing duo in college football. Braswell could also be set for a big 2022 junior season, while Robinson and Kennedy could also see time.

Inside Linebacker

Starter: Henry To’oTo’o, Jaylen Moody

Backup: Deontae Lawson, Kendrick Blackshire

To’oTo’o is coming off a strong 2021 season that included 111 total tackles, while Moody, a redshirt senior, is likely set for a big breakout 2022 campaign.

Cornerback

Starter: Eli Ricks, Kool-Aid McKinstry

Backup: Khyree Jackson, Terrion Arnold

McKinstry returns after playing a key role a year ago as a freshman, while Ricks, one of the nation’s top offseason transfers, could very easily start after transferring from LSU. Jackson is also a name to watch for at cornerback after seeing time for the Crimson Tide late last season.

Safety

Starter: Jordan Battle, DeMarcco Hellams

Backup: Kristian Story, Brian Branch/Malachi Moore

The Alabama Football safety duo of Battle and Hellams will be one of the best in the SEC this season, a duo that combined for 172 tackles and six interceptions a year ago.

Star

Starter: Brian Branch/Malachi Moore

Both Branch and Moore will likely see a notable amount of time in the Crimson Tide secondary this season, with both capable of starting games as well.
