Odell Beckham Jr has had the best NFL career of any LSU Football wide receiver. While Ja’marr Chase and Justin Jefferson might make the statement look foolish in the future, currently Beckham Jr has the best NFL career of any LSU wideout. Let’s look back on the college career of currently the best wide receiver to ever play for LSU.

Looking back at the LSU Football career of Odell Beckham Jr

Beckham Jr chose LSU out of 22 division 1 programs. While he did have a lot of offers coming out of high school, he wasn’t top of his recruiting class. Although he wasn’t top of his class, he was generally considered a four-star prospect by recruiting experts. Before committing to LSU, he had an interest in joining two other SEC schools.

He had received offers from Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He was giving both schools major consideration. Despite getting those offers, he choose LSU as it was near his hometown of New Orleans. One of the other reasons he chose LSU was because his parents were both student-athletes at LSU. His mom ran track, while his dad played football.

During his first year at LSU, he had 41 receptions for 475 yards. Beckham Jr had 11.6 yards per catch. He was second for LSU in receptions and yards for the season. (behind Rueben Randle in both categories). Overall, LSU would have a great season. The Tigers finished with a record of 13-1. The season would end in disappointment though as they would lose in the BCS championship game to their rival Alabama 21-0. Beckham Jr had an okay game with 38 yards on 5 catches.

The next year, Beckham Jr would continue to post very solid stats. Beckham Jr had 713 yards on 43 receptions. He would have an even better YAC than he had in his freshman year. In his sophomore year, Beckham Jr would average 16.6 yards per catch. He was the lead wide receiver for LSU in his sophomore year.

The wide receiver below him on the depth chart started to emerge as well. Jarvis Landry had 573 yards on 56 receptions. The two wide receivers would build a friendship during their years at LSU.   In their NFL careers, both wide receivers would play together on the Browns for 2 unsuccessful years. They remain friends to this day.  The team went 10-3 on the season and lost in the Chick-Fil-A bowl that year.

In his final season for LSU, Beckham Jr had 1,152 yards on 59 receptions. He improved on his YAC stat again. In his final year at LSU, Beckham Jr averaged 19.5 yards per catch. Beckham Jr led LSU to a 10-3 record and a win in the Outback bowl against Iowa. The future NFL star had two catches for 35 yards in the game.

After winning the Outback Bowl, Odell Beckham Jr declared for the NFL Draft. He was drafted 12th overall by the New York Giants. His stint in New York is most famous for his one-handed touchdown catch against the Cowboys. Years later, he was traded to the Browns until he was released by the squad during the 2021 NFL season. Then he signed with the Rams and helped them win a Super Bowl. He currently is a free agent but will probably be on a team by the end of the NFL season (due to him recovering from an ACL injury).
