SEC Football: Top 25 transfer additions of the 2022 offseason
By Matt Melton
5. QB Jaxson Dart – Ole Miss Rebels
The sophomore quarterback comes to Ole Miss after one season at USC, a year in which Dart threw for 1,353 yards with a 9:5 TD:INT. Assuming he wins the job over the returning Luke Altmyer in the fall, Dart will be the Rebels starting quarterback in 2022, and is a player with all the tools to excel in the Lane Kiffin Ole Miss offense.
4. QB Spencer Rattler – South Carolina Gamecocks
The No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 class out of high school, the former five-star comes to South Carolina after three seasons at Oklahoma, a span in which he threw for a combined 4,595 yards with a 40:12 TD:INT. Even despite having lost the Sooners starting job a year ago, Rattler is still one of the more talented quarterbacks in the SEC, and is likely set for a 2022 season that will be similar to his strong 2020 campaign in Norman.
3. RB Zach Evans – Ole Miss Rebels
A former five-star prospect in the 2020 class, Evans comes to Ole Miss from TCU where he rushed for a combined 1,063 yards and nine touchdowns across the last two seasons. The former five-star has everything needed to excel in the Ole Miss offense, and could be set for a big breakout 2022 season in Oxford as one of the conference’s top running backs.
2. RB Jahmyr Gibbs – Alabama Crimson Tide
Gibbs came to Georgia Tech as a highly-touted in-state prospect in the 2020 class, and turned into one of the ACC’s top running backs during his two seasons in Atlanta, accounting for nearly 2,000 total yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns. Likely the biggest name in a loaded 2022 Alabama running back room, Gibbs should be the Crimson Tide’s top option at the position this season as both a runner and pass catcher, while also likely making an impact on special teams as well.
1. CB Eli Ricks – Alabama Crimson Tide
A five-star prospect out of high school, Ricks has spent the previous two seasons at LSU, a span headlined by his 2020 freshman season in which he picked off four passes to receive Second Team All-SEC and Freshman All-American honors. A versatile athlete at 6-foot-2, Ricks should be one of SEC Football’s top cornerbacks this season, as well as a starter in a Crimson Tide secondary that is arguably the conference’s best.
In conclusion, here are a few additional names that just missed the list, each of which could also make a key impact this season:
- OT Miles Frazier – LSU Tigers
- CB Jalen Kimber – Florida Gators
- TE Austin Stogner – South Carolina Gamecocks
- CB Jackie Matthews – Mississippi State Bulldogs
- S Ledarrius Tennison – Ole Miss Rebels
