Mississippi State Football 2022 Season Preview: Offensive Line
By Matt Melton
Mississippi State Football will be tasked with replacing a key name on the offensive line from a year ago in 2022 NFL Draft first round pick Charles Cross. Returning an experienced offensive front however, which names could see time for the Bulldogs this season, and how does the Mississippi State offensive line look overall entering the fall?
Mississippi State Football 2022 Season Preview: Offensive Line
Kwatrivous Johnson
A redshirt senior, Johnson is one of the more experienced names returning along the Mississippi State offensive line, having started a combined 11 games across the last two seasons. A former four-star prospect in the 2018 class, Johnson was the Bulldogs primary right guard a year ago, and could make the move to left tackle this season as the arguable favorite to replace the departed Cross.
Nick Jones
One of the top JUCO offensive lineman in the 2021 class, Jones was primarily a reserve with the Bulldogs a year ago, making one start at left tackle. Jones could however be the Bulldogs starting left guard entering the year, and is likely set for a breakout redshirt junior campaign in Starkville.
LaQuinston Sharp
Having started games each of the past three seasons for Mississippi State, Sharp is among the most experienced names returning for the Bulldogs offensive line this fall. One of the top JUCO offensive lineman in the 2019 class, Sharp, a graduate student, started every game for the Bulldogs a year ago at center, and should be one of the SEC’s top players at the position this season.
Cole Smith
Another experienced name returning in 2022 is that of Smith, a redshirt senior who returns for the Bulldogs at right guard. Smith has started a total of 15 games for Mississippi State each of the past two seasons, and should see that number rise once again in 2022.
Kameron Jones
Also a redshirt senior, Jones is another experienced name returning for the Bulldogs offensive front this season. Jones started in every game for Mississippi State a year ago primarily at left guard, and could make the jump to right tackle this season.
