When Texas A&M Football begins the 2022 season, the Aggies will be without a familiar face at tight end as multi-year starter Jalen Wydermyer has moved on to the NFL. How might the Aggies replace Wydermyer in 2022, and which names could play the biggest role in doing that?

Texas A&M Football 2022 Season Preview: Tight Ends

Max Wright

The most experienced name returning at tight end for the Aggies this season is that of Wright, a senior who enters his fifth season in College Station this fall.

A former four-star prospect in the Aggies 2018 class, Wright originally began his time in College Station as a defensive lineman, but would transition to tight end in 2020. Since making that move to the offensive side of the ball, Wright has caught a total of four receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown across the last two seasons, three of which came a year ago.

As for what Wright’s 2022 season could look like, the senior could very well be the Aggies top option at tight end. Because of this, expect Wright to collect career-high’s in both receptions and yards, while also playing a key role in the Texas A&M running game as a blocker.

Speaking of receiving as well, Wright might not actually be the top pass catching option for the Aggies at tight end this season. Why you ask? Well, look no further than Texas A&M’s three true freshmen additions at the position.
