Alabama Football released their week one depth chart on Monday afternoon ahead of their season opening matchup with Utah State on Saturday night. What are some of the biggest takeaways from the depth chart, and were there any surprises?

3 takeaways from Alabama Football’s Week 1 depth chart

Wide Receiver

Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton headlines Alabama’s week one depth chart at the wide receiver position, while returning junior Traeshon Holden is also listed as a starter. The biggest surprise however comes at the third wide receiver starting spot in Kobe Prentice, a true freshman who will likely start in the slot for the Crimson Tide in week one.

Prentice is a former four-star prospect out of in-state Calera High School in Alabama’s 2022 class. Considered as a Top 100 prospect in the 2022 class as well, Prentice is one of the fastest wide receivers on the Crimson Tide roster, one who ran a 10.8 100-meter in high school.

Jaheim Oatis

Prentice was not the only true freshman in a starting spot on the Crimson Tide’s week one depth chart either as the same can be said for Oatis. Also a four-star prospect and Top 100 player nationally, Oatis was listed as a starter alongside DJ Dale at nose guard, and appears to have the potential to make an impact for Alabama Football from day one this season.

Offensive Line

Having lost a first round pick in Evan Neal, combined with the struggles at times a year ago, Alabama’s offensive line was a big talking point during the offseason. The lone returning starters on the week one depth chart from last season were right guard Emil Ekiyor Jr and center Darrian Dalcourt (primary starter a year ago before injury), while Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen is listed at left tackle, Kendall Randolph at left guard, and JC Latham at right tackle.
