3. Texas A&M Aggies

Week 1 Opponent: Sam Houston

The Aggies come in at No. 3 in our SEC Football preseason power rankings, while also ranked as the No. 6 team nationally entering the 2022 season.

Entering year five under head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M is coming off an 8-4 season a year ago, one that was the Aggies eighth season of at-least four losses since joining the SEC back in 2012. Even despite the 8-4 season a year ago, the Aggies however enter 2022 with a notable amount of talent returning and should be among the SEC’s top teams this season.

When looking at that talent, the Aggies offense returns two key names in Devon Achane and Ainias Smith, while the defense should once again be strong after allowing only 15.9 PPG to opponents a year ago. A few names from Texas A&M’s top ranked 2022 recruiting class could also make an impact as freshmen such as Evan Stewart, while quarterback Max Johnson was also a key transfer addition.

If there is a potential sleeper team to win the SEC this season, Texas A&M could be the answer. The Aggies should once again have one of the conference’s top defenses, while the offense should be strong as well, with the quarterback position in particular key for Texas A&M and whether or not they can take the next step.

The Aggies should begin their 2022 season in a big way as well, with Texas A&M likely cruising to a week one win over Sam Houston in College Station.
