The defending SEC Football champion, Alabama opens their 2022 season at home for the first time since 2011 as the Crimson Tide are set to host Utah State inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Ranked as the preseason No. 1 team in the country, the Crimson Tide are coming off a 13-2 season a year ago, one in which Alabama fell to Georgia in the national championship game. As mentioned previously however, Alabama did win the SEC championship a year ago, and now return numerous key names off that same team that averaged 39.9 PPG offensively.

Headlining those returning names is the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at quarterback, along with another Heisman contender on defense in Will Anderson Jr. Transfers such as Jahmyr Gibbs, Eli Ricks, and Jermaine Burton will also likely see a significant amount of action in this week one contest, while other returning names such as Henry To’oTo’o, Jordan Battle, and more will also start.

Utah State on the other hand has already opened their 2022 season as the Aggies defeated UConn last Saturday at home 31-20. Coming off an impressive 11-3 season a year ago, the Aggies were solid defensively in the contest, but impressed in particular on offense where Utah State out-gained the Huskies 542-364 in total yardage.

Leading the Aggies on offense is quarterback Logan Bonner, who accounted for three passing touchdowns a week ago, while running back Calvin Tyler Jr enjoyed a strong game on the ground. Utah’s State defense also had success last week picking off two passes, with MJ Tafisi leading the Aggies with 10 tackles.

Alabama is a heavy favorite going into this contest, and rightfully so with this game being played on their home field. Expect the Crimson Tide to build a sizable lead in the first quarter, and for Alabama to roll to a massive week one win. Prediction: Alabama 56, Utah State 10

Alabama vs Utah State will be played on Saturday, September 3, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM ET. The game will be played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL, and will be available on SEC Network.
