Coming off one of their best single seasons in recent years, Arkansas begins their 2022 season on Saturday afternoon with an immediate test as the Razorbacks host Cincinnati for a Top 25 Week 1 showdown, the first ever meeting between the two.

As mentioned previously, Arkansas finished the 2021 season at 9-4 overall, which happened to be the Razorbacks highest win total since 2011, as well as their first winning season since 2016. Now ranked as the No. 19 team in the country entering the year, the Razorbacks will be looking to continue to build off that impressive season in year three of the Sam Pittman era, which also happens to be the first time Arkansas is ranked entering a season since 2015.

The Razorbacks return a talented roster in 2022 as well, featuring names such as KJ Jefferson, Raheim Sanders, and Dominique Johnson on offense, as well as a key transfer addition in wide receiver Jadon Haselwood. The Arkansas defense also added a noteworthy transfer in Drew Sanders, joining a group that also returns additional key names in Bumper Pool and Jalen Catalon.

Cincinnati on the other hand is coming off their third double-digit win season across the last four years, going 13-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal round. Ranked as the No. 23 team in the country, the Bearcats are expected to once again be among the top teams in the AAC this season, even despite having lost numerous key names such as Desmond Ridder, Sauce Gardner, Jerome Ford, and more.

As for the returning names for the Bearcats, Cincinnati’s defense will be lead by Deshawn Pace and Ty Van Fossen, as well as others such as Ja’Von Hicks and Jowon Briggs. The offense returns Ryan Montgomery at running back, while Tyler Scott, Tre Tucker, Josh Whyle, and Leonard Taylor are notable pass catchers who are back for Cincinnati.

Arkansas vs Cincinnati SEC Football Prediction

One of two Top 25 matchups for an SEC Football team on Saturday, Arkansas vs Cincinnati will provide an early season opportunity to see just how good both the Razorbacks and Bearcats can be coming off impressive 2021 seasons. When picking a winner however, it’s hard not to pick the Razorbacks playing on their home field, combined with the amount of production that Cincinnati has to replace from a year ago.

Arkansas should be considered the favorite in this matchup, with the Razorbacks likely winning this game by at-least a touchdown. That gap could be much wider however, especially if the Bearcats offense has trouble moving the ball on this Arkansas defense. Prediction: Arkansas 28, Cincinnati 17
