Arguably the headline week one matchup for SEC Football, defending national champion Georgia kicks off their 2022 season in Atlanta with a Top 25 matchup as the Bulldogs face one of the Pac-12’s top teams in Oregon in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. This is only the second ever meeting between the Bulldogs and the Ducks on the gridiron, with Georgia having won the lone previous matchup 27-16 back in 1977.

Winning the national championship, Georgia’s 2021 success was no secret, going 14-1 while owning likely the nation’s top defense, one that allowed only 10.2 PPG to opponents. The Bulldogs now enter the 2022 campaign ranked as the nation’s No. 3 team, tasked with replacing multiple key names off that same team, in particular on defense.

As for who returns for the Bulldogs, quarterback Stetson Bennett is back to lead the Georgia offense, as are others such as Brock Bowers, Kenny McIntosh, and AD Mitchell. The Georgia defense however does have some questions to answer going into this game based on lack of experience at some positions, most notably inside linebacker, but do return names elsewhere such as Kelee Ringo, Nolan Smith, and Jalen Carter.

Oregon however is coming off a 10-4 season a year ago, and enters the 2022 campaign ranked as the No. 11 team nationally. One of the Pac-12’s top teams, the Ducks also saw a notable amount of roster turnover from last season, along with the head coaching position where former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning takes over for Mario Cristobal.

Auburn transfer Bo Nix will likely start at quarterback for the Ducks, and will lead an Oregon offense that returns others such as Byron Cardwell, Kris Hutson, and Troy Franklin. The Ducks defense is led by one of the top linebackers in the Pac-12 in Noah Sewell, while Jeffrey Bassa is another key name who returns this season.

Georgia vs Oregon SEC Football Prediction

As mentioned previously, this is arguably the headline matchup for the SEC in week one, pitting the defending national champions against one of the top teams from the Pac-12. Playing essentially in their backyard as well, Georgia will certainly be a big favorite, but will the Bulldogs new faces be able to step up against a solid Oregon team?

Georgia should be able to move the ball on the Oregon defense, as well as provide troubles for Nix on defense, a player they have had success against before when he played for Auburn. Overall, expect the Bulldogs to eventually pull away in the second half, and for Georgia to win by at-least two touchdowns. Prediction: Georgia 31, Oregon 14
