One of the top teams in the SEC Football East, Kentucky officially opens their 2022 season on Saturday night as the Wildcats host Miami (OH) for a week one showdown.
Ranked as the No. 20 team in the country, Kentucky is coming off yet another strong season in 2021, one in which the Wildcats finished 10-3. Winning their fourth consecutive bowl game, this also marked the second time in the past four years that Kentucky has won 10 games, with the Wildcats now entering the 2022 season ranked for the first time since 1978.
Leading the Wildcats will be a returning starter at quarterback in Will Levis, along with a running back duo in Chris Rodriguez Jr and Kavosiey Smoke that is among the best in SEC Football. On defense for the Wildcats, Kentucky returns two of their top tacklers in Jacquez Jones and DeAndre Square, while also having added a few notable transfers to the mix.
Miami (OH) on the other hand are coming off a 7-6 season, one in which the RedHawks went 5-3 in MAC play. This was the eighth season for the RedHawks under head coach Chuck Martin, as well as a year in which Miami (OH) won their first bowl game since 2010.
Leading the RedHawks against Kentucky is an experienced starter at quarterback in Brett Gabbert, along with a few other notable names on offense such as wide receiver Mac Hippenhammer. The RedHawks also return Matthew Salopek on defense after collecting 100+ tackles a year ago, as well as a few others.
