One of the top preseason teams in SEC Football, Texas A&M opens their 2022 season on Saturday afternoon as the Aggies host Sam Houston in College Station, an opponent the Aggies have never lost against (12-0 all-time, last meeting in 2013).

Coming off an 8-4 campaign a year ago, Texas A&M are entering the fifth season of the Jumbo Fisher era in College Station with a notable amount of hype. Ranked as the No. 6 overall team in the country, the Aggies are expected to have one of SEC Football’s top defenses once again after allowing only 15.9 PPG to opponents a year ago, and just a talented roster overall, one that also added the nation’s No. 1 2022 recruiting class.

As for the roster, the Aggies offense will be led by returning names such as Devon Achane and Ainias Smith, while Haynes King takes over as the Texas A&M starting quarterback after winning the job in the offseason. Freshman wide receiver Evan Stewart could also be a name to know, while the defense features one of the most talented young defensive lines in the SEC.

Sam Houston on the other hand was one of the top FCS teams nationally a year ago, going 11-1 for the year, with their lone loss coming to Montana State in the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. The Bearkats are expected to be among the top teams in the FCS once again this season as well, with this week one matchup against Texas A&M undoubtedly the biggest game on their 2022 schedule.

Roster-wise, the Bearkats return a few notable names from a year ago, a group headlined on offense by wide receivers Ife Adeyi, Cody Chrest, and Noah Smith. Sam Houston’s defense also returns a few key players that will be tested against the Aggies, while the Bearkats have one of the top kickers in the FCS in Seth Morgan.

Texas A&M vs Sam Houston SEC Football Prediction

When predicting this game, it will essentially be a showcase for the Texas A&M offense, with both Haynes King and Max Johnson likely seeing a notable amount of action at quarterback. The Aggies should claim an early lead, and due to Sam Houston likely not being able to keep up offensively, Texas A&M should cruise to a week one win. Prediction: Texas A&M 56, Sam Houston 7
