Florida State beats LSU in a game you think would happen between these two programs
The Florida State Seminoles beat the LSU Tigers, 24-23 in stunning fashion. Florida State seemed to have the game locked up after a special teams gaff by LSU. LSU was going to have the ball with around 2 minutes left to go in the game until a muffed punt return put the ball back into Florida State’s hands. Florida State was up by a touchdown, it seemed like the game was over. It was not.
LSU falls to Florida State 24-23 in thrilling finish
The Tigers got the ball back with around 1:23 to go after Treshaun Ward fumbled the ball at the LSU 1. Jayden Daniels then drove the ball down the field to lead LSU to a score. In what seemed to be the game-winning drive, Jayden Daniels showed off his legs as he ran for 24 yards on a crucial second down. Also during that drive, Daniels had key passes to LSU wide receivers.
The wide receivers’ core had struggled all day up to that point. LSU was finally able to get their wide receivers open on that last drive. After completing a pass to Mason Taylor to get LSU to the 19-yard line, Jayden Daniels threw Mason Taylor on a crossing route. Taylor fought to reach the end zone. Instead, he got to the one-yard line and was ruled out of bounds. The play was reviewed and the call stood.
While the play was ruled that Taylor went out of bounds, his knee was down before going out of bounds. This would have forced LSU to quickly spike the ball. While that is very easy considering the clock stops until the refs are set in college football, considering there was one second, that might have not been an easy feat to do.
Despite that, the refs ruled Taylor was out of bounds and the clock stopped for LSU. Jaray Jenkins then ran a slant route and Daniels threw to him for the touchdown. It seemed like the game was going to OT. It did not go to OT. The extra point was blocked and Florida State won the game.
This was a rough game for LSU’s special teams. The Tigers had two muffed punts, and a missed extra point. That’s pretty rough. On the offensive side of the ball, LSU was led by Jayden Daniels. Daniels threw for 209 yards on 25 completions. Daniels threw for two touchdowns. He also ran for 114 yards on 16 rushes. The Tigers struggled to throw the ball in the first half, but got better, especially during that last drive.
For Florida State, Jordan Travis was amazing. He threw for 260 yards on 20 completions. He also threw for 2 touchdowns. This was certainly a showcase for Travis, as he made many amazing plays. In the game, there were a lot of plays Travis extended the play with his amazing athleticism. This was certainly an interesting debut for Brian Kelly. Special teams need to be cleaned up. I think this was probably the most interesting and fun outcome we could have had, considering the state of both games. This was definitely a fun watch, and the game could’ve be over at many different points. This was most definitely the funniest way Brian Kelly could have started in Baton Rouge.
