SEC Football: 4 Biggest Takeaways after Week 1 Games
3. Arkansas gets ranked win against Cincy
It would be a disservice and plain disrespectful to not mention the ranked win the Razorbacks had over the weekend.
In a game that was overshadowed by Georgia vs Oregon which had the same kickoff time, Arkansas took Cincinnati’s best punch and held strong in the season opener.
The Razorbacks leaned on their star QB KJ Jefferson as he accounted for just under 300 total yards of offense and scored 3 TD’s.
They led 14-0 at halftime and never trailed in the game.
Their defense forced a couple of key turnovers including one in the fourth quarter that led to a score to bring their lead to two scores.
There was certainly a lot to like.
Verdict: Razorbacks could finish second in the SEC West
If they want to continue to build off of last years 9 win season, they will need to lean on KJ Jefferson.
They don’t seem to be ready to compete with Alabama so a trip to Atlanta is unlikely, but I think this victory shows that last year wasn’t a fluke.
Getting a ranked win in week 1 is not easy so just being ready and able to do that sets them on the right path.
And I would go as far to say that they might be the second best team in the SEC West, instead of Texas A&M.
After all, the Aggies did lose to the Razorbacks last season and I still think they need to prove they can beat these “new wave” Razorbacks if you will.
I’ll end with this. Keep an eye on them because 10 wins is definitely possible here.
