Week 1 of the 2022 SEC Football season has now officially come and gone, meaning that our SEC power rankings now receives its first update of the year. Was their any notable movement in this week’s update, and what is in store for each SEC Football team in Week 2?

Florida, Tennessee rise in Week 2 2022 SEC Football power rankings

14. Vanderbilt Commodores

Previous Ranking: 14

After a dominant 63-10 week zero road win over Hawaii, Vanderbilt took care of business once again in week one as the Commodores defeated Elon at home 42-31 to advance to 2-0 on the year. Remaining at the No. 14 spot in this week’s update however, this was not necessarily the most overall impressive performance for Vanderbilt either as the Commodores were actually out-gained in total yardage 495-424, as well as outscored 21-14 in the second half.

The undefeated Commodores however now turn their attention to a notable opponent in week two as Vanderbilt will host one of the ACC’s top teams on Saturday afternoon as No. 22 Wake Forest comes to Nashville. Should the Commodores win that game to start the season 3-0, then Vanderbilt is likely due for a rise in the SEC Football power rankings next week.

13. Missouri Tigers

Previous Ranking: 13

Even despite not moving from their No. 13 ranking, Missouri also took care of business on their home field with a 52-24 win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. Despite falling behind early in the first quarter, the Tigers were able to out-score Louisiana Tech a combined 38-7 across the second-and-third quarters, with two of those touchdowns coming from star freshman wide receiver Luther Burden III.

Now 1-0 on the year, Missouri will hit the road for the first time this season in week two as the Tigers will travel to Kansas State for a matchup against the Wildcats. While likely not favored entering the contest, this is a matchup that Missouri could easily win however, but it will be tough to do on the road facing an offense led by running back Deuce Vaughn.
