6. Kentucky Wildcats

Previous Ranking: 5

Yes, Kentucky did drop a spot in this week’s update, but it was no fault of their own. The Wildcats kicked off their 2022 season with a 37-13 win at home over Miami (OH), a game in which Kentucky outscored the RedHawks 24-3 in the second half to pull away.

Next up for the Wildcats is the previously mentioned road matchup at Florida to open SEC Football play, which is a tricky game for Kentucky. The Swamp is already a tough place to play, and Gainesville will be rocking on Saturday night once again, with the stadium environment likely similar to that of this past week.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Previous Ranking: 6

Tennessee rises into the top five in this week’s update, coming off a season opening 59-10 win at home over Ball State on Thursday night. An all-around impressive performance, the Volunteers started the game about as good as you could imagine, and would carry a 38-0 lead into halftime, and never look back.

Things get significantly more difficult for Tennessee in week two however as the Volunteers will travel to face a Top 25 opponent in Pittsburgh. Can Tennessee keep the momentum going into week two and potentially pickup a big upset against one of the ACC’s top teams on the road?
