Auburn Football: Looking back at the Tigers career of Michael Dyer
By Matt Melton
The focal point of one of the most memorable plays in Auburn Football history, Michael Dyer may largely be remembered most by Tigers’ fans by that one play, but he was however much more than that during his two seasons with the Tigers. An impact player at running back who would later transfer from the program, here is a look back at the time that Dyer spent with the Tigers as one of the SEC’s top running backs.
Looking back at the Auburn Football career of Michael Dyer
A highly-touted recruit out of high school, Dyer was one of, if not the, biggest names in the Tigers 2010 class, coming to Auburn as a five-star prospect out of Little Rock Christian Academy in Arkansas. A Top 15 player nationally, Dyer was also considered as the No. 1 overall running back in the 2010 class, and is still to this day one of the highest-rated players to ever commit to Auburn.
Dyer as expected would go on to make a significant impact as a freshman at Auburn, being a key piece of the Tigers 2010 national championship winning team. Rushing for 1,093 yards (No. 5 in SEC) and five touchdowns on 182 attempts, Dyer would also rank No. 4 in the conference with a 6.0 YPC, with his freshman season headlined by a big run late in the fourth quarter of the 2011 BCS National Championship Game against Oregon.
Dyer would take another step in 2011 as a sophomore as well, rushing for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns on 242 attempts (No. 2 in SEC) in what was the best season of his collegiate career. The former five-star would also rank top five in the SEC in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns as well, while also catching two passes for seven yards.
The former five-star would transfer from Auburn after the 2011 season, and would go on to play collegiately for two more seasons at Louisville in 2013-14, rushing for a combined 704 yards and seven touchdowns on 154 attempts. Bringing an end to his Auburn career, Dyer would finish his time with the Tigers by rushing for a combined 2,335 yards and 15 touchdowns on 424 attempts, along with three catches for 16 yards across two seasons from 2010-11.
