One of two notable SEC Football vs ACC matchups during Week 2, Tennessee travels to Pittsburgh looking for their first-ever win over the Panthers (Pittsburgh leads all-time series 3-0) on Saturday night. A matchup featuring two of the top teams in each conference, this is also a rematch of an entertaining game from a year ago in Knoxville in which the Panthers won 41-34.

Tennessee (1-0) opened their 2022 season with a 59-10 win over Ball State in Week 1, out-gaining the Cardinals 569-343 in total yardage. Leading the No. 24 Volunteers in this contest was starting quarterback Hendon Hooker, who accounted for four total touchdowns, while three others also rushed for a score in Jaylen Wright, Jabari Small, and Dylan Sampson.

In addition to that group, Cedric Tillman and Jimmy Holiday both had notable performances during Week 1, as did Ramel Keyton and Bru McCoy. Defensively, the trio of Aaron Beasley, Warren Burrell, and Christian Charles tied for the team-lead with eight tackles each, while Trevon Flowers and Jeremy Banks also had notable games.

Pittsburgh (1-0) on the other hand comes into this Week 2 contest ranked as the No. 17 team in the country, and are coming off an exciting 38-31 win over West Virginia. The Panthers debut for quarterback Kedon Slovis, the USC transfer completed 16-of-24 passes for a total of 308 yards and a touchdown at the helm of the Pittsburgh offense.

Joining Slovis on the Panthers offense is the running back duo of Rodney Hammond Jr and Israel Abanikanda, while Konata Mumpfield, Jared Wayne, and Bub Means each had strong showings in week one. Pittsburgh’s defense is led by leading tackler Sirvocea Dennis, while others such as Bangally Kamara and Brandon Hill also ranked among the Panthers top tacklers last week.

Tennessee vs Pittsburgh SEC Football Prediction

As mentioned previously, this game was close a year ago, and the same should happen once again this season. Pittsburgh could very easily win as well, but I’ll say that Tennessee avenges their loss to the Panthers from a year ago, with the Volunteers winning this game with a late touchdown, as well as behind a big game passing from Hooker. Prediction: Tennessee 35, Pittsburgh 31
