6. Texas A&M Aggies

Previous Ranking: 3

Undoubtedly the biggest team to fall in this week’s SEC Football power rankings was Texas A&M, as the Aggies were upset on their home field by Appalachian State, 17-14. A game in which the Aggies struggled mightily, Texas A&M was out-gained in total yardage by the Mountaineers 315-186, which included only passing for a combined 97 yards through the air.

Now 1-1, things certainly do not get any easier for the Aggies in Week 3 as Texas A&M will host a Top 25 opponent in the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes. One of the ACC’s top teams, the pressure will certainly be on Texas A&M to win this contest at home, but it will not be easy by any means against a talented Hurricanes team.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Previous Ranking: 5

Even despite picking up a ranked 34-27 win at Pittsburgh in overtime, Tennessee remains here at No. 5 in this weeks update. A back-and-forth game against one of the ACC’s top teams, this was yet another impressive performance from the Volunteers passing game as quarterback Hendon Hooker threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns, one of which went to leading receiver Cedric Tillman who had nine receptions for 162 yards.

Now 2-0, Tennessee returns home in Week 3 for a matchup with Akron inside Neyland Stadium. The Volunteers will be massive favorites, with this game likely playing out similar to their Week 1 win over Ball State.
