By Matt Melton
One of two SEC Football in-conference matchups in week three, defending national champion Georgia travels to South Carolina for their first true road test of the season. A series that Georgia has owned historically (53-19-2 all-time advantage), the Bulldogs have won six of the last seven meetings between the two, with the lone South Carolina win coming back in 2019 in Athens.
South Carolina (1-1, 0-1 in SEC) dropped their SEC Football opener a week ago as the Gamecocks fell on the road to Arkansas, 44-30. The Gamecocks now return home however for this matchup where they were victorious in week one, topping Georgia State by a final of 35-14.
South Carolina comes into this game averaging 32.5 PPG offensively, and are led by quarterback Spencer Rattler. Antwane Wells Jr, who has 15 receptions for 244 yards and a touchdown this season, has emerged as the Gamecocks No. 1 option at receiver, while running back Marshawn Lloyd has accounted for three total touchdowns out of South Carolina’s backfield.
The Gamecocks defensively are led by their top two tacklers in Jordan Burch and Nick Emmanwori, headlining a unit that is allowing 29 PPG to opponents. South Carolina also has three others who have collected double-digit tackles across the first two games as well in Zacch Pickens, Brad Johnson, and Jordan Strachan.
The new No. 1 team in the country, Georgia (2-0) on the other hand is coming off their second consecutive win as the Bulldogs defeated Samford 33-0 a week ago. A game in which Georgia led 30-0 at halftime, this continue the impressive performance for the Bulldogs from week one, a game in which they routed Oregon 49-3 in a dominant showing.
Averaging 41 PPG on offense, the Bulldogs have gotten stellar play from quarterback Stetson Bennett so far (75.4 CMP%, 668 yards, 3 TD), with Ladd McConkey, Brock Bowers, Kearis Jackson, and Adonai Mitchell each having caught at-least five passes this season. Kendall Milton currently leads the Bulldogs in rushing, while fellow running back Kenny McIntosh also leads Georgia in receiving.
Allowing only 1.5 PPG to opponents (fewest in nation), the Bulldogs secondary has been one of the biggest talking points so far this season where names such as Malachi Starks, Christopher Smith, and Dan Jackson have impressed. Smael Mondon Jr is also a top tackler for the Bulldogs entering week three, while freshman Mykel Williams has collected Georgia’s lone sack so far.

South Carolina vs Georgia SEC Football Prediction
While an upset is certainly a possibility, especially with this game being played in Columbia, this game however is Georgia’s to lose.
