8. Ole Miss Rebels
Previous Ranking: 7
Even despite picking up a 35-27 win over Tulsa to remain unbeaten, the Rebels drop a spot in this week’s update. Ole Miss was shutout in the second half while being outscored 10-0 across the game’s final two quarters, but was able to hold onto the win due to their strong second quarter, one in which the Rebels scored 28 points to carry a 35-17 lead into the half.
The Rebels will now open SEC play in a big way this Saturday as Ole Miss will host Kentucky for a Top 25 matchup. A game between two unbeaten teams, the Rebels certainly have what it takes to pull off the Top 10 upset, but will likely need to play a complete game against the Wildcats to do so.
7. LSU Tigers
Previous Ranking: 8
LSU picked up their third consecutive win last Saturday as the Tigers shutout New Mexico 38-0 in a dominant performance, rising a spot in this week’s update as a result. In the contest, the Tigers outgained the Lobos 633-88 in total yardage, with the LSU defense allowing only two first downs to the New Mexico offense all game.
The Tigers will now put their three-game winning streak on the line in week five as LSU will travel to Auburn for their first true road game of the season. LSU will likely be the favorite over Auburn going into Saturday night, and could easily leave with the road win, especially if their defense shows up similar to this past week.
