Alabama Football Reclaims No. 1 Spot in The Polls
By Keith Holt
There has been a little shift at the top of the College Football rankings this week. Alabama Football has found its way back to the number 1 team in the country. The Tide looked impressive against a solid Arkansas team and were able to put up points even after losing Heisman candidate Bryce Young to injury in the second quarter. The legs of back-up Jalen Milroe and running back Jahmyr Gibbs showed that Nick Saban’s machine will be tough to stop.
Alabama Football returns to the No. 1 spot in the polls
Bama lost their spot after narrowly escaping with a win against Texas in week 2. This week Georgia has had its own near upset experience against a 2-2 Missouri team. Both the AP and AFCA Coaches Poll put Bama on top this week. Alabama Football sits narrowly ahead of Georgia in both polls and even have less first place votes than the Bulldogs in the AP poll.
The Bulldogs and Tide are not the only two SEC teams in the top 10 with Tennessee sitting at 8 and Mississippi sitting at 9. Ole Miss moved into the top 10 after defeating Kentucky this past Saturday, causing the Wildcats to fall out of the top 10 where they now sit at number 13. Not to be left out is LSU sitting at number 25 and Mississippi State at 23. These rankings will be impacted by the schedule.
Upcoming games to look for:
10/15 Alabama vs Tennessee – This could be the game that we find out if Tennessee is back. Will Bryce Young be healthy? Hendon Hooker is the type of quarterback that is known to give Nick Saban defenses problems. This will be an interesting match-up at Neyland Stadium.
11/05 Georgia vs Tennessee – Will Georgia have all the kinks worked out as this game could decide who is going to Atlanta representing the SEC East. This is always an intense game and everyone will have something to prove.
11/12 Alabama vs Ole Miss – Nick Saban will face one of his old assistants as Lane Kiffin appears to have something cooking in Oxford. This will be the last game in a really tough string of games for Alabama who would have seen Tennessee, Mississippi State and LSU in consecutive weeks before this big match-up.
11/19 Georgia vs Kentucky – Can Kentucky be a contender in the SEC East? Kirby Smart will take his team to Kroger Field hoping to wrap the final game of their SEC slate before possibly heading to the title game.
As we know there are no easy Saturdays in the SEC, and it will be interesting to see who will make it to Atlanta as all these top teams will get chances at each other. What will it mean for the SEC and CFB Playoff?
