The Mississippi State Bulldogs beat the Texas A&M Aggies, 42-24. The Bulldogs offense was on fire going for 388 total offensive yards. Additionally, Mississippi State forced 4 turnovers on this Texas A&M offense. Speaking of the Aggies offense, it struggled. Texas A&M couldn’t score at all in the first half. The passing game struggled throughout the game, while the running game picked up in the second half.

The game started off with punts. After the fifth punt of the game, Devon Achane fumbled and the Bulldogs picked it up. Will Rogers and the rest of the offense used this momentum and turned it into a touchdown drive for the first score of the game. After a three-and-out by the A&M offense, Mississippi State scored another touchdown to go up 14-0 at the half.

Texas A&M picked up their offense in the second half. Led by the running game, they went down the field for a field goal. The Bulldogs had their first major blunder in the game when they fumbled on the second play of their next drive. It seemed like A&M was coming back when they had something going on the next drive, but the Aggies’ special teams had their own blunder.

When A&M had to settle for a field goal, it seemed like it would be a one-possession game. The kick was blocked and the Bulldogs took it back for a touchdown. After both offenses went on a scoring binge. The passing game for A&M woke up and went to work for a touchdown. Will Rogers returned the favor and made it a 21-10 game, early in the fourth.

From there on, it went back and forth, even though Texas A&M suffered a QB change after an injury to Max Johnson. The game was over after Haynes King threw a pick-six to Emmanuel Forbes.

For Texas A&M, my worries about their offense were confirmed in this game. The reason they lost was that the passing offense isn’t really good. Expecting Achane to carry this offense is a lot to ask. I really don’t think they stand a chance against Bama next week. While I think Bama’s offense vs Texas A&M’s defense will be a good matchup, the other side of the ball will be heavily stacked in Bama’s favor.

For Mississippi State, my view is better. While I have lower expectations for them, today showed what I had seen in the first couple of weeks. This offense is electric. While Arkansas will be the favorite going in their matchup next week, I will give them a shot because of their offense and Arkansas’ turnover issues.
