The Tennessee Volunteers beat the LSU Tigers, 40-13 in a blowout. The Tigers’ offense struggled as miscues forced to give the Volunteers way too many extra opportunities. Tennessee Football quarterback Hendon Hooker added another game to his Heisman case with another good performance.

Tennessee Football beats LSU in blowout road win

LSU’s day of miscues started off with a huge mistake on special teams during the opening kickoff. Jack Bech fumbled the kickoff return and the Tigers’ day started off bad.

The Volunteers’ offense showed up early and often. Tennessee’s offense scored a touchdown on their first drive after only five plays.

LSU’s offense didn’t do much better than the kickoff team on the next drive as they went three and out on their first drive of the game.

LSU’s special teams struggled again as Tennessee was very close to the red zone on just the punt return. Hooker and the rest of the offense couldn’t turn the good field position into six but still, the Vols had a 10-0 lead early.

On the next drive by LSU, it seemed looked like the Tigers’ offense was doing better. Jayden Daniels seemed to be setting up huge passing plays and the run game was doing solid as well. It was all going well until LSU couldn’t convert on fourth and four.

The Volunteers went down the field the other way for a field goal and it was a 13-0 Tennessee. The Tigers went back to struggling on offense and couldn’t get anything going on their next drive.

The Volunteers were able to score a touchdown on the first play of their next drive. It was 20-0 and the lead only seemed to keep climbing against LSU. After an exchange of punts, the Tigers got back into this game a little bit.

Daniels led LSU’s air attack to a touchdown in the Tigers’ first points of the game. It seemed like LSU had the momentum near the end of the half, as the Vols missed a 50-yard field goal. This wasn’t the case.

After a huge catch by Jaray Jenkins on a first down that went for 22 yards, the LSU offense crashed horribly. LSU turned it over on downs and Hendon Hooker put the Volunteers into field goal range. Tennesee would go into the half up 23-7.

The second half wasn’t really eventful. Tennessee Football really just destroyed the Tigers in the second half. This game showed that LSU is still a long way away from being one of the better teams in the SEC.

The Tigers went into this game with a three-game winning streak. While I personally did not believe that they deserved to be ranked after beating three inferior opponents, they were ranked 25th in the AP Poll going into this game.

I would say that the game against Florida next week is probably one of their most crucial games of the season. LSU really hasn’t beaten anyone good besides Mississippi State.

Considering that 3 of their next 5 games are games that aren’t going to be competitive because of talent difference (Bama, Ole Miss will beat them by a lot, UAB will lose to them by a lot), these games are important.

Florida is kind of in the same position as LSU and it will be interesting to see how they stack up against each other. The stupid mistakes are still there for the Tigers, and if they want to win next week, they will need to correct those mistakes.

Tennessee Football’s offense is amazing. Going into this game, this was known but today was another opportunity to show that. Hendon Hooker is a Heisman candidate after today. His 239 passing yards and two touchdowns against LSU further his case for the Heisman Trophy.

Looking ahead, I am really interested to see what the Vols do against Bama and Georgia. They are not the favorites by any means but Tennessee’s offense demands respect from any team in the country.

I am not saying they will beat Georgia or Bama, but all I am saying is that the performance in this game showed they could possibly beat Bama or Georgia (This may get freezing takes exposed after those games, but I am taking a shot cause the offense is LEGIT).
