South Carolina Football: MarShawn Lloyd is the Answer on Offense
South Carolina Football stunned the shorthanded Kentucky Wildcats on the road Saturday, and it was running back, MarShawn Lloyd, who got the job done for the Gamecocks.
This year’s South Carolina football team has been plagued with questions, and until now, it seemed like head coach, Shane Beamer, did not have the answers. The Gamecocks and their fan base have spent too long hoping that QB, Spencer Rattler, would propel them to heights not witnessed in the program’s last 8 years; however, after 6 games, up and down performances on Rattler’s behalf show that the answers to the potential success of South Carolina football may come from another source.
As the clock ticked down the other night in Lexington, Kentucky, South Carolina football fans found themselves embracing a victory many thought the team was uncapable of. Kentucky football, lacking star QB, Will Levis, failed to produce on offense, but their highly touted defense faced many issues as well. South Carolina running back, MarShawn Lloyd, proved to be too much for a Kentucky defense that was still licking its wounds from their heartbreaking loss to Ole Miss the previous week.
MarShawn Lloyd finished the night with 110 yards and 1 touchdown against this Kentucky football team. His sole touchdown came midway through the first quarter, but after gaining the early lead, the Gamecocks did not look back. Solid running from Lloyd kept Kentucky’s defense on its heels the rest of the night. Whenever Kentucky seemed to gain the edge defensively, Lloyd stepped up to get South Carolina out of trouble when it mattered.
If Saturday night’s performance against Kentucky, and a 4-2 record, are signs of things to come, South Carolina football fans should feel confident that the rushing attack, led by MarShawn Lloyd, can keep them competitive in the SEC East.
