Kentucky Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview: G Cason Wallace
By Matt Melton
For a Kentucky Basketball 2022 recruiting class that was one of the best in the SEC this past cycle, there are two names that stick out from that group, both of which were considered as five-star prospects – Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston.
Taking a look at Wallace in particular however, what does the 2022-23 Kentucky Basketball season have in store for the five-star freshman?
Kentucky Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview: G Cason Wallace
As mentioned previously, Wallace, a 6-foot-4 guard, comes to Kentucky as a five-star prospect out of Richardson High School in Texas, one who was considered as one of the top combo guards in the 2022 class. Rated as a Top 10 player nationally, as well as the No. 1 player in the state of Texas, Wallace is also coming off an impressive senior season at Richardson in which the five-star averaged 19.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, and 6.1 APG for one of Texas’ top teams.
Named the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year, Wallace would also receive additional honors that included McDonald’s All-American, a Jordan Brand Classic selection, and more.
As for what Wallace’s 2022-23 season will look like, the five-star is simply next in the long line of talented freshman guards who have taken the court in Lexington. A one-and-done caliber talent, Wallace is likely to be among the Wildcats’ leaders in scoring and assists, while also making a key impact on the defensive end as well where he is an excellent defender and rebounder for the position.
A talented combo guard, Wallace could potentially see time at both the one-and-two this season, but is likely to start for the Wildcats at the two due to point guard Sahvir Wheeler returning.
Overall, Wallace should be set for a special 2022-23 season in Lexington, one in which the five-star is one of the Wildcats top players. Wallace should also be a contender for the SEC Freshman of the Year this season, and is likely to make the SEC All-Freshman Team at seasons end.
2022-23 Season Prediction: 11.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.6 SPG, 44.5 FG%, 36 3P%, 78.5 FT%
