Even despite currently being in the heart of football season, we are also about three weeks away from the start of the 2022-23 SEC Basketball season.

With excitement starting to build around the 2022-23 season as well, let’s take a look at which SEC teams will begin the year ranked according to the preseason AP Top 25, which was released on Monday afternoon.

5 SEC Basketball teams ranked in preseason AP Top 25

In all, there are a total of five SEC Basketball teams ranked in the 2022-23 preseason AP Top 25, a group headlined by Kentucky. The Wildcats, who were upset in the Round of 64 last season by Saint Peter’s, come into the season ranked as the No. 4 overall team in the country, and are the lone SEC team to receive a first place vote as Kentucky received two (No. 1 North Carolina received 47, No. 2 Gonzaga received 12, No. 3 Houston received 1).

Beginning with the teams behind the Wildcats, Arkansas begins the year ranked as the No. 10 team in the country, with defending SEC Basketball Tournament champion Tennessee right behind at No. 11.

Defending SEC regular season champion Auburn also begins the season ranked as the Tigers come in at No. 15. Alabama is the final SEC team ranked to begin the season, as the Crimson Tide come in at No. 20.

With five total teams from the conference ranked to begin the year, there are also a few others from the SEC who sit just outside the Top 25 entering the season, a group that includes Texas A&M and Florida. The Aggies were however the more notable of the two as Texas A&M is currently the first team left out of the Top 25.
