With both teams coming off a loss, Alabama is set to host Mississippi State on Saturday night in a Top 25 SEC Football showdown in Tuscaloosa. A head-to-head matchup that the Crimson Tide have owned historically (84-18-3 all-time advantage), Alabama has also won the last 14 meetings between the two, with Mississippi State’s last win coming back in 2007.

Beginning with a look at Alabama, the Crimson Tide are coming off their first loss of the season a week ago, falling on the road to Tennessee, 52-49. With the loss, the Crimson Tide’s record on the year fell to 6-1 overall, as well as 3-1 in SEC Football play, with Alabama now coming into this matchup ranked as the No. 6 team in the country.

The Crimson Tide offense also ranks fifth nationally by averaging 45 PPG, a group that is led by the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at quarterback. Jahmyr Gibbs has been one of the SEC’s top running backs this season accounting for 635 yards on the ground and eight total touchdowns, while others such as Ja’Corey Brooks, Kobe Prentice, Jase McClellan, Jermaine Burton, Traeshon Holden, and Cameron Latu are additional names to know.

Alabama’s defense on the other hand is coming off allowing a by-far season-high 52 points at Tennessee, with their season average allowed now at 18.1 PPG for the year. Leading the Crimson Tide on the defensive side of the ball is outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. with five sacks on the year, while others such as DeMarcco Hellams, Henry To’oTo’o, Brian Branch, and Jaylen Moody rank as the top tacklers.

Mississippi State also comes to Tuscaloosa off a loss as the Bulldogs fell on the road at Kentucky last Saturday night, 27-17. With the loss, the Bulldogs overall record on the year fell to 5-2, with Mississippi State also holding a 2-2 mark in SEC Football play as they come to Alabama ranked as the No. 24 team in the country.

The Bulldogs offense comes into this game averaging 35.4 PPG, and also have one of the SEC’s top quarterbacks in Will Rogers, who is currently completing 71.3% of his passes for 2,324 yards with a 23:4 TD:INT. Mississippi State will use two different running backs in Dillon Johnson and Jo’quavious Marks, while Rara Thomas, Caleb Ducking, Rufus Harvey, and Lideatrick Griffin are all names to know at receiver.

Defensively, Mississippi State is led by the duo of Jett Johnson and Nathaniel Watson, and come into this game allowing 21.9 PPG to opponents. Decamerion Richardson is also a name to know, as is cornerback Emmanuel Forbes who has five interceptions on the year, as well as four in the last three games.

While the Mississippi State passing game has the potential to give the Alabama defense trouble at times, the pick to win here however is the Crimson Tide. Alabama has dominated this matchup in recent years, and with this game being played in Tuscaloosa, should pick up yet another win over the Bulldogs, likely coming by at-least two touchdowns.
