Ole Miss Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview: F Robert Allen
By Matt Melton
Coming off a season-ending injury a year ago, Robert Allen is set to return for Ole Miss Basketball this season as a player who could play a key role for the Rebels. One who brings experience to the Ole Miss frontcourt, here is a look at what the 2022-23 season could have in store for the senior forward.
Ole Miss Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview: F Robert Allen
A 6-foot-8 forward, Allen originally began his collegiate career back in 2018-19 at Samford, and would spend two seasons with the Bulldogs, averaging a combined 12 PPG and 7.6 RPG while starting in 63-of-65 games.
After those two seasons, Allen would go on to transfer to Ole Miss prior to the 2020-21 season, and would appear in 28 games that year, starting eight. Averaging 16.1 MPG off the Rebels bench, Allen would also average 3.6 PPG and 3.2 RPG on 46.4% shooting from the field.
Looking back at last season however, Allen would appear in the Rebels first eight games of the year, drawing the start in four. As mentioned previously however, Allen would suffer a season-ending injury during non-conference play, and would finish the year by averaging 6.5 PPG and 5.4 RPG on 45% shooting from the field during limited action.
As for what the 2022-23 season could look like for Allen, the senior forward was likely set to be a key piece for the Rebels frontcourt a year ago, and the exact same could be said for this year.
Recovering from an injury, Ole Miss Basketball could opt-to ease Allen back into things to begin the season, but the senior should emerge into a significant role when fully healthy. When that happens as well, Allen could easily draw a starting role in a notable number of games for the Rebels this season, and is likely set for his best single-season in an Ole Miss uniform since transferring to Oxford.
2022-23 Season Prediction: 7.8 PPG, 6 RPG, 1.2 BPG, 44.5 FG%, 30 3P%, 65 FT%
