Looking to remain unbeaten, Ole Miss travels to Baton Rouge for an SEC Football showdown with LSU.
Game Time: October 22nd, 2022 at 3:30 P.M
Location: Tiger Stadium
TV Schedule: CBS
One of three SEC Football undefeated teams remaining, the Ole Miss Rebels go into this game with a 7-0 record. They are ranked 7th in the AP Poll. Despite the unbeaten record, this team has some difficulties at times. They have allowed mediocre and downright bad opponents to play them way too close.
Overall, they haven’t been great at times, as they have allowed the likes of Auburn and Tulsa to think they have a chance to win the game. Their biggest win on the season came against Kentucky. While Kentucky is a pretty solid win, it is the only real semi-big win this season for the Rebels. The rest of their opponents have been the worst offering of the SEC or teams that are not really noteworthy at all.
This is the first of their real tests this season. Like appetizer before the main course, the Rebels face off against LSU and Texas A&M before having games against Alabama and Mississippi State in non-consecutive weeks (with a somewhat okay Arkansas matchup in between). I will be looking for the Rebels’ offense to improve, especially in the second half. Lane Kiffin addressed that during one of his press conferences this week.
If Jaxson Dart and the rushing duo of Quinshon Judkins/Zach Evans can keep this offense humming all four quarters, I will feel much more confident about their college football playoff chances.
LSU goes into this week with a 5-2 record. The season has been very mixed in Brian Kelly’s first year as head coach of the Tigers. They had a downright terrible game in their season opener loss to FSU but won five straight afterward. They lost horribly to Tennessee in week 7, but the Tigers weren’t really expected to win that one.
In last week’s game, LSU pulled off one against the inconsistent Florida Gators. LSU once again showed that the defense has been struggling since the game against Auburn. Jayden Daniels has led the Tigers’ offense with a dual-threat attack. Daniels has illustrated that he can run with his legs, as he has 403 rushing yards on the season. The junior transfer has also thrown for 1,564 passing yards as well.
Prediction: Ole Miss: 24 LSU:17
I think Ole Miss wins this game, but I think the result will be close. Ole Miss has stalled at times and let worse opponents hang around. Until the Rebels can prove me wrong, I think this game will be close. I don’t really give LSU a huge shot to win this game just because I think Ole Miss is a way better football team.
I really hope that Ole Miss is able to prove me wrong this week (and I am not a Rebels fan by any means), because I think it will make SEC Football a lot more interesting going forward. If Ole Miss is able to correct its issues, I think a potential matchup against Alabama in a couple of weeks could land in the Rebels’ favor. If that happens, chaos could take place in the SEC, and College Football.
