The LSU Tigers beat Ole Miss, 45-20. Ole Miss’ offense stalled after scoring two touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. Jayden Daniels controlled LSU Football’s offense to a monster day that would end with them taking down one of the best teams in the country.

LSU Football beats Ole Miss as Rebels offense slows down

Ole Miss started the day hot on offense, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. LSU responded by driving down the field but couldn’t convert on the goal line and had to settle for three. Ole Miss then once again drove down the field for a touchdown.

After an LSU missed field goal on their next drive, it seemed like Ole Miss’ offense would start to run away with it. The opposite of that happened. Despite the good field position, the Rebels had to settle for three. Jayden Daniels on his next drive went to work getting a touchdown for the Tigers. After an Ole Miss three-and-out, the Tigers had a chance to tie the game.

They did exactly that. Daniels cooked up a touchdown-worthy drive and the game was tied. Ole Miss seemed like it has gotten it back together on the next drive but had to settle for three. A little shockingly (or not shockingly considering this offense tends to stall at times), Ole Miss would not score for the rest of the game.

After punts by both sides, LSU quickly got to work and left the Rebels in the dust after the end of the third quarter. LSU would end up scoring two more touchdowns to put a bow on an impressive victory for Brian Kelly’s squad.

For LSU Football, this is an impressive victory. Going into this game, I really didn’t think the Tigers weren’t amazing. While they did have five wins, their only decent win on the season came against Mississippi State. Their second and third most impressive wins were against Florida and Auburn. These two teams are not necessarily the cream of the crop of the SEC.

The one time they played a playoff contender, they got bounced quickly. While Ole Miss wasn’t on Tennessee’s level going into today’s game, they were a lot closer than other teams. The fact that Kelly was able to coach this team to victory is quite impressive.

Looking forward, they have Alabama, Arkansas, UAB, and Texas A&M. I would say they will get blown out by Bama, beat UAB by the same score they lose to Bama too, and should beat Arkansas/Texas A&M. Looking at that projected win total of 9 games, that is actually pretty decent for Brian Kelly’s first year.

Considering where the season started against Florida State, that’s pretty amazing. They aren’t an NY6 bowl team, but 9 wins in the first year is really good. If LSU takes care of business, I will say that Brian Kelly’s first year as the head coach of the Tigers was a good year.

Looking at Ole Miss, the playoff is probably out of the discussion now. They could still somehow win-out (probably beat Texas A&M, and Arkansas, lose to Alabama; undecided about Mississippi State; think it will be a very good game), and they could win the SEC west and win the title game, but it doesn’t look too good right now.

This team is just too inconsistent for me to give them a shot. They will probably have a season to be very proud of and end up in the NY6, but if they were just more consistent who knows what could have happened with this team?

While it is extremely unlikely, Ole Miss could create chaos and end up as the second or first team in their division. While that game will decide whether the Rebels can create chaos in the college football world, they don’t really have a shot at it. The Alabama game will most likely be a loss.

I am really getting interested in the Egg Bowl this year because I think Mississippi State and Ole Miss are both going to end up in interesting spots at the end of the year.  The game is way too far out in the future for me to predict, but I think it certainly will be interesting.

Next. Is the best defense an elite offense in today's SEC?. dark

If Ole Miss takes care of business, they will have had an amazing season – 9 or 10 wins (depending on what happens in the Mississippi State game) is a great season. This loss to LSU Football probably takes away the chance of this being a season that will be remembered for a long time. Instead, the Rebels will just have to settle for another great season.
