South Carolina Football beats Texas A&M as Aggies offense stalls once again
The South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Texas A&M Aggies, 30-24. This is the fourth straight win for South Carolina Football, as things are looking up for Shane Beamer’s squad. The Aggies have fallen from grace, losing three straight. All is not well in College Station, as they are in danger of not even being bowl eligible.
The game started off with a kickoff returned for a touchdown from Xavier Legette. Just like that, South Carolina Football was up 7-0. Texas A&M’s offense started off slow into a familiar routine, as Haynes King threw an interception on the first drive and fumbled the ball on the next drive. After the interception, the Gamecocks settled for a field goal and scored a touchdown on the fumble.
On the next drive, the A&M offense finally got something going but had to settle for a field goal. After punts by both sides, Juju Mcdowell fumbled and the Aggies had the ball in an amazing field position. The offense struggled to score and they had to get a field goal instead. Finally, Devon Achane got this offense going for a TD, and after a two-point conversation later, it was a three-point game going into the half.
After multiple punts, Marshawn Lloyd ran his way for a South Carolina touchdown. It was a two-possession game in the fourth quarter and it seemed like the game was over. Considering the Texas A&M offense, it was over. They ended up getting a field goal and had a hail mary shot to win the game, but the Aggies ended up losing.
Marshawn Lloyd ended up with 92 yards on 18 carries, averaging 5 yards per carry. Devon Achane had 99 yards on 20 carries, averaging 5 yards per carry. Achane ended up with 1 rushing touchdown as well. Haynes King threw for 178 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Spencer Rattler threw for 168 yards.
This loss was not good for Jimbo Fisher’s squad. The offense has struggled this season and it did today. It is looking really bad in Aggieland. Texas A&M is now in desperation mode to just make a bowl game.
Considering they will most likely lose to Ole Miss and LSU, they need to win the three other games this season. While the game against UMass is expected to be a win, considering the offense this year, the games against Auburn and Florida are not.
While Auburn has been the runt of the SEC this year, this game will be close because A&M simply isn’t good this year. The Florida game will be a very intriguing game, as Florida has been inconsistent all year and A&M (as already stated) has a very poor offense.
This is South Carolina’s fourth straight win. A squad that was not looking good in their first three games of the season has certainly improved. It looked like the Gamecocks would struggle to get to bowl eligibility, but it seems like they are heading toward a bowl game.
The Missouri and Vanderbilt games will be wins. While they will most likely lose to Tennessee and Clemson, Florida is certainly a game that South Carolina Football will be favored in. While the game is closer to a toss-up than a game the Gamecocks are heavily favored to win, South Carolina has a decent shot to win it.
It seems like this team will eclipse their win total of last year. Considering the Gamecocks beat Kentucky and A&M for the first time ever, I would consider this year a success for Shane Beamer.
