On Monday afternoon, Auburn Football announced that they have parted ways with head coach Bryan Harsin after two seasons. Looking ahead to the Tigers coaching search, who are some names that you should be watching for that could be Auburn Football’s next head coach?

5 names to watch for as Auburn Football’s next head coach

Kevin Steele

While you could certainly argue that it is unlikely to happen, Steele is a name that you would have to at least put on this list. Why you ask? Well, if you remember from a few years back, Steele was the other prominent name in the Auburn Football coaching search prior to the 2021 season that was alongside Harsin.

Currently in his first season as the defensive coordinator at Miami, Steele has a coaching career that dates back to 1980, one that includes numerous stops within the SEC at Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee. However, Steele has only been a head coach once during his career, which came at Baylor from 1999-02 where he went a combined 9-36 with the Bears (also served as Auburn’s interim for their Citrus Bowl loss in 2020).

Taking a deeper look at his SEC coaching career, Steele was previously the defensive coordinator at Auburn from 2016-20, along with a few other notable stops, most notably at Alabama. Steele was the defensive coordinator with the Crimson Tide back in 2007, along with a linebackers coach in 2008 and 2014, and was also the defensive coordinator at LSU back in 2015.

As mentioned previously, Steele you could certainly argue is the unlikeliest to happen when it comes to the names on this list. However, based on the interest that was there a few years ago, the former Auburn defensive coordinator has to be mentioned as a potential name at the least.
